Holi is celebrated around the world, not just on this day but all year round as “Color Run”. There are many reasons this beloved festival has grown on the people of the world. It is wonderful how most festivals provide unique opportunities to learn throughout our life.
Powerful life lesson Holi communicate is equality. People celebrate the festival with colors. Once color is applied on the face everyone is the same. The skin color of all becomes the same and we all are equal in all manners.

Holi gives the perfect opportunity to appreciate, rejuvenate and celebrate all relationships that matter to us!! The celebrations bring the people together and bring out the collaborative spirit in them .They come out of the houses, clean their houses, collect firewood for “Holika” bonfire and smear each other with colors, leaving their worries behind. Smart leaders use this vibrant festival to clear the “cobwebs” and “rust” which would have accumulated within the team over the time and “bring the togetherness” back.

Holi gives us the perfect opportunity to resolve all pending conflicts and start a new journey on a clean slate. This is a special occasion which allows us to “play” with our enemies, celebrate along with them and wipe out all differences. Ignite Everything, Clean the Muck Inside Out
Holika bonfire symbolizes an opportunity to burn all that is evil in us. People collect all the junk and put that into the bonfire that evening symbolizing that they are burning all that is evil in their lives. It gives Leaders the impetus to again retrospect all the drawbacks and showstoppers that exist within them and their teams and eliminate anything and everything which prevents their goals from getting realized. Our “Inner” muck is something which is the most “difficult” to clean. Holi teaches us to start with that.

The meaning of Holi has it’s origins in two stories. And both carry a lot of meaning for most Hindu families, specially to strengthen the bond between couples. One is of the love of Radhna Krishna, whose love is eternal and renowned for being full of naughtiness. The other is the story of Prahlad whose demon father time and again forced him to renounce his love for God Vishnu and pray to him as God.

होली का त्योहार मुख्य रूप से हिन्दुओं का प्रमुख पर्व होता है और इसका इतिहास सदियों पुराना है, जो हमें प्राचीन समय की कथाओं की याद दिलाता है।
होली का त्योहार मुख्य रूप से रंगों का त्योहार होता है और इस दिन का हिंदू धर्म में विशेष महत्त्व है। होली दो दिनों तक मनाई जाती है जिसमें पहले दिन होलिका दहन होता है जिसे छोटी होली भी कहा जाता है और दूसरे दिन रंगों का त्योहार होता है जिसमें लोग मिल जुलकर रंग खेलते हैं और खुशियां मनाते हैं। पानी के गुब्बारों और पिचकारी से बहुत पहले से ही होली खेलने का चलन चला आ रहा है। बहुत पहले होली केवल हिन्दू धर्म का त्योहार था लेकिन अब ये दुनिया भर में एक उत्सव की तरह मनाया जाता है।
होली वह दिन होता है जब होलिका, जिसे अग्नि में अखंड रहने का वरदान प्राप्त था उन्होंने प्रह्लाद को अपनी गोद में बैठाकर अग्नि में प्रवेश किया था। उस समय भगवान विष्णु प्रह्लाद की सहायता के लिए आए और परिणामस्वरूप, होलिका अग्नि में जल गई, जबकि प्रह्लाद को कोई नुकसान नहीं हुआ। योगी अश्विनी जी बताते हैं कि पुराणों की कहानियां एक आम आदमी के लिए पौराणिक कथाएं प्रतीत होती हैं क्योंकि उनमें वर्णित घटनाएं अक्सर उन चीजों का उल्लेख करती हैं जो अलौकिक या असली लगती हैं, उदाहरण के लिए, आग में बेदाग रहने की शक्ति या विष्णु नामक ऊर्जा का आह्वान। पुराण वास्तव में हमारे पूर्वजों के साथ घटित वास्तविक घटनाओं का इतिहास होते हैं, जिन्होंने कई हजार साल पहले धरती पर निवास किया था। इसलिए होली का इतिहास भी पुराणों से जुड़ा हुआ है।

होली का त्योहार मुख्य रूप से वसंत ऋतु यानी कि वसंत की फसल के समय मनाया जाता है जो सर्दियों के अंत का प्रतीक भी माना होता है और हिंदू कैलेंडर के फाल्गुन महीने में मनाई जाती है। यह उत्सव फाल्गुन पूर्णिमा तिथि (जानें कब से शुरू हो रहा है होलाष्टक) की शाम से ही शुरू हो जाता है और दो दिन तक मनाया जाता है। होली रंगों का तथा हंसी -खुशी का त्योहार है। यह भारत का एक प्रमुख और प्रसिद्ध त्योहार है, जो अब विश्वभर में मनाया जाने लगा है। यह दिन बुराई पर अच्छाई की जीत का प्रतीक है। लोग इस दिन एक अग्नि जलाते हैं और भगवान विष्णु के लिए भक्त प्रहलाद की भक्ति की विजय का जश्न मनाते हैं। इस दिन लोग होलिका की पूजा भी करते हैं क्योंकि हिंदू पौराणिक कथाओं में यह माना जाता है कि होलिका पूजा सभी के घर में समृद्धि और धन लाती है। लोगों का मानना है कि होलिका पूजा करने के बाद वे सभी प्रकार के भय पर विजय प्राप्त कर सकते हैं। होलिका दहन के अगले दिन को धुलेंडी कहा जाता है जिसमें अबीर-गुलाल इत्यादि डाला जाता है और दूसरों से सौहार्द्र जताया जाता है।
होली का सांस्कृतिक महत्व
होली से जुड़े विभिन्न किंवदंतियों का उत्सव लोगों को सच्चाई की शक्ति के बारे में आश्वस्त करता है क्योंकि इन सभी किंवदंतियों का नैतिक बुराई पर अच्छाई की अंतिम जीत है। हिरण्यकश्यप और प्रह्लाद की कथा भी इस तथ्य की ओर इशारा करती है कि भगवान की अत्यधिक भक्ति भुगतान करती है क्योंकि भगवान हमेशा अपने सच्चे भक्त को अपनी शरण में लेते हैं। ये सभी लोगों को अपने जीवन में एक अच्छे आचरण का पालन करने और सच्चे होने के गुण में विश्वास करने में मदद करती हैं। होली लोगों को सच्चे और ईमानदार होने के गुण में विश्वास करने और बुराई से लड़ने में मदद करती है। इसके अलावा, होली साल के ऐसे समय में मनाई जाती है जब खेत पूरी तरह खिल जाते हैं और लोग अच्छी फसल की उम्मीद करते हैं। यह लोगों को होली की भावना में आनंदित होने, आनंद लेने और खुद को डूबने का एक अच्छा कारण देता है।

Holi… the word itself brings so much joy, happiness and energy. Holi is a Sanskrit word, which is also known as Festival of Love, and sometimes, also referred as the Spring Festival. Apart from celebration of colors; Holi has social, mythological and cultural significance. Holi is a traditional Hindu festival; which celebrates the beginning of spring as well as the triumph of good over evil. Each festival, including Holi, not only brings with it a lot of cheerfulness but also important life lessons. What is the story behind Holi festival?
Holi celebrates the victory of good over evil. King Hiranyakashyap, the king of Asuras (demons) was blessed with a boon which made him felt that he will never die. This made the king arrogant and he demanded even gods should worship him. Prahlada, Hiranyakashyap’s son, never supported his father and worshiped Lord Vishnu. This made the king annoyed and he along with his sister Holika planned to kill Prahlada. Holika wore a fire-resistant cloak and sat on a pyre with her nephew Prahlada, but as the fire roared the cloak flew to Prahlada leading to the death of Holika. Moreover, to the evil king’s surprise, Prahlad survived. Hence, the triumph of good over evil.
Why do we celebrate Holi with colors?
The reason behind celebrating Holi with colors comes from Lord Krishna era. The colors became the part of the Holi festival celebration to commemorate the love of Krishna and Radha. According to mythology, Lord Krishna got the blue color skin because of the poison given to him by the demon Putna. Krishna had an inferiority complex and had doubts that Radha will like him because of his dark skin tone. He feared that Radha might not talk to him due to the colour difference between both of them. So, Yashoda, mother of Lord Krishna suggested him to ask Radha to paint his face with any color of her choice. Radha colored Krishna’s face, and since then they became a couple.

GOODNESS AND FAITH ARE PARAMOUNT
I read the story of Prahlad every year. We watch videos and make sure the kids understand what both of these mean in today’s lives. The story might be mythological but when explained in today’s context, kids learn about how often bad influences affect us and we need to have faith in our own principals to carry us through. Life lessons holi teach us are very profound.
EVERYONE IS EQUAL
I make sure to explain to my kids that the meaning of Holi is to show that once color is applied everyone is the same. The skin color of all becomes the same and we all are equal in all manners. Once you have children, specially this significance evolves also to one of acceptance and love.
ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS
The Holi festival as I mentioned has evolved. There was a time when people used to get really dirty throwing mud and eggs or worse but with time with repeated dos and don’ts discussed today everyone who celebrates does so in an environmentally healthy way.
This is a great time to teach kids about why using organic colors is important.
BE KIND TO ANIMALS
I tell them how Holi used to be celebrated where many people would hurt animals by applying color to them or throwing them in water. How important it is to not do the same and to always, always think of the consequences of your festivities on animals.
NO MEANS NO
Many people, specially in India, choose to remain locked indoors for everyone knows if you go out you are bound to end up with color on your face or wet clothes!
If someone doesn’t like to celebrate, you should not put color on them. This applies to many other aspects of life where someone might not want to indulge in something they enjoy. An important lesson in today’s world.
STRANGERS AREN’T ALL SCARY
The best part about Holi is this festival is everyone plays it with equal enthusiasm. Even if you go to the a place where it is celebrated not knowing anyone, you are greeted like a friend and get colored just as if people already knew you. Your faith in humanity gets restored with that much positive vibes going around.
It is a wonderful time to step out of your comfort zone. Under the watchful eyes of parents, many kids open up to having fun with people they have just met.

GETTING MESSY IS FUN
My kids usually hate getting their hands dirty. They have gotten so used to using wipes that often things are icky. This day allows kids today, in the spin and span, sanitized environments to let lose and get messy. It teaches them it is okay to get dirty. This is the only festival where the dirtier you are is reciprocal to the amount of fun you have had.
After all, life is very messy and it is important to know when to enjoy the it and when to purge the mess!
SELF CARE IS IMPORTANT
There is a great amount of prep that goes into preparing to play Holi. . Wear sunglasses and shut your eyes whenever someone is applying color on you. Oiling your hair or Wear old full sleeved and full length clothing to give your skin maximum protection from the colors.
Conclusion
Holi most important is equality among all as everyone has color,treat everyone with respect no one is bigger or smaller.Always keep out thought to kill evil or bad thoughts in our mind as part of holika Dahan. We too have prepared all wood together in our temple in Indianapolis . I will update more holika dahan and color pictures as they happen in upcoming days .
Holi reminds my childhood when we used to collect flowers in jungle and the make own color !! We used to get Tesu yellow color flower and add water and warm / heat to make natural wonderful color . That was fun to play color throughout the days and eat lot of sweet.Holika dahan was also important as we used to go in jungle cut wood and bring it near Dahan place . Occasionally we also found any old furniture someone kept outside and include in Holika Dahan Most important we all had fun as SIGN OF EQUALITY OF COMMUNITY WITHOUT ANY RACE and CAST as we used to bura na mano holi hai hum bachho ki toli hai .Enjoy your day Jai ShriRam
होली सबसे महत्वपूर्ण है सभी के बीच समानता क्योंकि सभी का रंग होता है, सभी के साथ सम्मान के साथ व्यवहार करें कोई भी बड़ा या छोटा नहीं है। होलिका दहन के हिस्से के रूप में हमारे मन में बुरे या बुरे विचारों को मारने के लिए हमेशा विचार रखें। इंडियानापोलिस में हमारे मंदिर में हमने भी सारी लकड़ी एक साथ तैयार की है। मैं आने वाले दिनों में होलिका दहन और रंगीन चित्रों को अपडेट करूंगा।
होली मेरे बचपन की याद दिलाती है जब हम जंगल में फूल इकट्ठा करते थे और खुद रंग बनाते थे !! हम टेसू पीले रंग का फूल प्राप्त करते थे और प्राकृतिक अद्भुत रंग बनाने के लिए गर्म पानी मिलाते थे। दिन भर रंग खेलने और ढेर सारी मिठाइयाँ खाने में मज़ा आता था। होलिका दहन भी महत्वपूर्ण था क्योंकि हम जंगल में कटी हुई लकड़ी दहन स्थान के पास लाते थे। कभी-कभी हमें कोई पुराना फर्नीचर भी मिलता है जिसे कोई बाहर रखता है और होलिका दहन में शामिल करता है। सबसे महत्वपूर्ण बात यह है कि हम सभी ने बिना किसी जाति और जाति के समुदाय की समानता के संकेत के रूप में मजा किया क्योंकि हम बुरा ना मानो होली है हम बचाओ की टोली है। अपने दिन का आनंद लें। जय श्रीराम

After the gap of minimum 27 years I again got opportunity to be In Bharat my own home town where I have grown up to celebrate the holi .
I received so much love and affection while I was able to see my childhood friends while walking on road . People offered me jalebi and other sweets
holi most important is equality among all as everyone has color,treat everyone with respect no one is bigger or smaller.Always keep out thought to kill evil or bad thoughts in our mind as part of holika Dahan. We too have prepared all wood together in our temple in Indianapolis to have Dahan today around 8 pm today .Local people in group please join and everyone else wherever possible.I have written a blog on holi with pictures of our prepared wooden structure and volunteer making sweet .http://www.kritiartist.com/learning-from-holi/ .
