Sankranti is one of the many major HIndu festivals, and the very first one, in western calendar year, usually comes between January 13-15 of every year. This year it is on Jan 14th during this new year 2023(western calendar). However, we notice, Sankranti celebration is last one (among the main festivals) in HIndu calendar
Interestingly, it is the only HIndu festival celebrated based upon Solar calendar, when Sun ☀️ enters into Makara Rasi (one of 12 Rasis= 12 Zodiac signs) travelling northwards (Uttarayana) and rest of the HIndu festivals follow Lunar calendar (based upon 27 Nakshatras-constellations).
On this day, we express our gratitude 🙏 to Sun god (Surya Devatha/Deva) for giving us life and abundant resources including our health, wealth and all the necessary tools to our art of living (Dharma, artha,Kama) and also to achieve our ultimate goal of life i.e Moksha (liberation).
Makar Sankranti is a major harvest festival observed by Hindus throughout India that occurs in the month of January. Makar Sankranti is observed differently around the country, and the cultural importance of the holiday varies geographically as we travel from one state to the next, with each commemorating and embracing the new harvest season in its unique style.
